The game in a nutshell
Perplexus Epic is not a board game. It is a one-player 3D maze sealed inside a clear plastic ball: you twist and tilt the whole sphere to roll a small ball along a numbered track past 125 obstacles. It suits patient children from about 8, teenagers and adults who like a hands-on challenge, and it makes a strong gift because there are no pieces to lose and no reading.
Is Perplexus Epic right for you?
Great if
- A child of 8 or more who likes puzzles, Rubik's cubes or building toys and can stick at a hard challenge
- Screen-free time alone: long car journeys, train trips, or quiet hours in the school holidays
- A birthday or Diwali gift for a teenager or adult, since it appeals across ages
- Building patience, steady hands and a feel for how things move in three dimensions
Skip it if
- You want a game for the family to play together: only one person can play at a time, and others can only watch
- The child gives up easily; dropping the ball sends you back to the start, which can be frustrating
- You want something for a child under 8: Spin Master's easier Perplexus Rebel is a better first maze
How Perplexus Epic plays
Perplexus Epic is a puzzle toy, not a board game. Inside a clear plastic sphere, big enough to need both hands, sits a twisting plastic track, with a small ball resting at the spot marked START. There is nothing to set up: take it out of the box and start turning.
- Time to teach: about 1 minute.
- Reading and language: Nothing to read at all: the track is marked with numbers, and the only instruction is to guide the ball from START along the numbered track. It works the same for any language at home.

Your turn, step by step
- 1Start
The ball begins at the spot marked START inside the sphere. There is nothing else to set up.
- 2Twist
Flip, twist and tilt the whole sphere so the ball rolls along the numbered track past each obstacle. If it falls off, go back to START and try again.
- 3Finish
Get the ball through all 125 obstacles to the end of the track to beat the maze. Until then, try to beat your highest number.
The full explanation: how a game of Perplexus Epic goes
You hold the sphere in both hands and flip, twist and tilt it a full 360 degrees so that gravity rolls the ball along the track. The track is numbered from 1 to 125, and each number marks an obstacle: narrow beams, spirals, drops, ramps and staircases, with names like the serpentine, the launch ramp and Escher's stairs.
If the ball falls off the track, you guide it back to the start and try again. Your 'score' is simply how far you got, so you can set yourself a target, like reaching obstacle 50 by the end of the week.
You win by getting the ball through all 125 obstacles to the finish. Most people need many sessions over days or weeks. Slow, steady turns work better than quick jerks, and learning each tricky section by feel matters more than speed.
Brothers, sisters and cousins can make it social by taking turns and comparing who reached the highest number, or by racing the clock to a set obstacle. But it is still a solo puzzle: only one pair of hands can hold it.

The Indian edition, on Amazon.in
We matched this listing to the edition made and sold in India. Amazon shows today's price, the seller and delivery.

Perplexus Epic sold in India is made in India: Funskool's product page gives India as country of origin and names Micro Plastics Private Limited, Karnataka, as manufacturer and packer, and Indian store listings name Spin Master India Pvt. Ltd., Bengaluru, also with India as origin. Funskool, which sells Spin Master's Perplexus range here, links its page to the Amazon.in listing we use. The puzzle is the same as Spin Master's international Epic, so there is no reason to pay extra for an import.
How to make sure you get a genuine copyA little care before you click.
- The box shows the Perplexus logo and the Spin Master logo, with 'EPIC' in large letters and a '125 obstacles' badge.
- The sphere has a purple ring, a START marker with the Perplexus name moulded beside it, and numbers printed along the track up to 125.
- Indian boxes are labelled with Spin Master's item 6053141 and barcode 778988268551, and Indian listings name Spin Master India Pvt. Ltd. (Bengaluru) or Funskool, with India as country of origin.
- Many cheaper '3D maze balls' and 'magic intellect balls' are sold with step counts like 100 or 158. They play the same way and can be fine, but they are not Perplexus, so don't pay Perplexus prices for them.
- A listing that uses 'Perplexus' in its title but shows another brand, or no brand, on the box is not Spin Master's Perplexus.

What reviewers and players say
People who write about Perplexus Epic describe it as absorbing and very hard. A Galaxus editor called it one of the most demanding solo challenges he had tried, with a real thrill each time he cleared an obstacle, but found it frustrating that a dropped ball means going back to the start. One parent on Hacker News says their child plays with a Perplexus for hours. It is best seen as a long-term personal challenge rather than a game for the family to play together.
What people love
- Hard to put down: each obstacle you clear is a small win, and the numbers show your progress
- No batteries, no reading and no loose pieces to lose
- It appeals to children, teenagers and adults alike
- It builds patience and steady, careful hand control
Common complaints
- Dropping the ball sends you back to the start, which can make it frustrating, especially for younger children
- It is strictly one player at a time, so it doesn't work as a family game
- Some owners report the ball getting stuck or a fault in the track; one video reviewer suspected her sphere had a defect

Questions people ask about Perplexus Epic
Is Perplexus Epic a board game?
No. It is a one-player 3D maze puzzle: a sealed plastic sphere with a numbered track and a ball inside, which you twist and tilt to move the ball along. Amazon.in lists it under board games, but there is no board, no turns and no opponent, so buy it as a solo puzzle toy.
What age is Perplexus Epic for?
Spin Master's own description and the newest boxes say 8 and up; Funskool's page and the earlier box say 10 and up. Epic is one of the hardest Perplexus mazes, so for a child of 6 or 7, or one who gets frustrated easily, Perplexus Rebel is a gentler first maze.
What happens if the ball falls off the track?
You go back to the START and try again. That is the whole challenge: you remember how far you got and try to beat it next time. Getting through all 125 obstacles usually takes many tries over days or weeks.
Does Perplexus Epic need batteries?
No. The box holds just the sphere and an instruction sheet, and the ball rolls by gravity as you turn the sphere. Nothing lights up or makes sounds, apart from the ball rattling around.
Which Perplexus should I buy first?
Spin Master's range in India includes Perplexus Rebel (easier, once called Rookie), Perplexus Beast (once called Original) and Perplexus Epic, with 125 obstacles the hardest of the three. Start with Rebel for younger or less patient children, and choose Epic for older children, teenagers and adults who want a real challenge.
